 You’re playing hard to get…

If you start following me around the manor prodding me with your staff I will snap it in half and feed you both ends.

Which staff?

The wooden one.

Oh well then… the stakes are a little less high now.

Although do you really wish to break an enchanted staff in half? It could… react

I am sure I can withstand any reaction your…staff may have.

Come now, you can't honestly say that you haven't missed my cameo appearances on your window sill in the slightest?

I can say with certainty that the only one who has missed your cameo’s is Aveline, seeing as she is the one who gets to arrest you for loitering.

I can, if required, have Bodahn put you both in opposite corners.

I’d much rather have you man-handle me into a corner, love.

Hence my delegation of the task.

Again, for the most part. There have been incidents, they’ve been contained. Your concern, while warranted and not entirely misplaced, does not need to be directed away from the circle, for the most part.

It sounds as if you’ve had a change of heart regarding the mages here in Kirkwall.

Have I really been gone that long?

Not so much a change of heart as much as a new management plan. Mages are dangerous, and must be controlled, contained or observed. That has not changed. What has changed is my method of dealing with the outbreaks.

You’d be surprised how well Mages police each other, if given the chance.

I-really?

I admit that this idea of yours is one that I will have to think long and hard on.

How exactly does it work?

Essentially? Under Meredith, the penalties for crimes were extreme. The Circle at the Gallows has changed since her death but the effect is still the same. A mage steps out of line, and with the remembered threat of tranquility, murder or in one memorable case, Meredith hunting down their family members, they police themselves in order to minimise risk.

This contains problems in of itself. Mages who believe they have control over others are more likely to attempt to reassert that control, just as within any other system. Although it has, by and large, worked so far. I would, however, keep an eye on it.

I assume that Hawke is still…
